Removing the fold up bathroom sink

Post by shawgough on Mon Mar 21, 2016 5:21 pm

A small shampoo bottle accidentally got tipped into the waste water tank when the fridge got folded away. Is there any way of removing it to remove foreign bodies? I don't want to force it if it's not meant to come out.

It's a 93 Harmony on Talbot Express.

Sorry but I cannot reconcile the title of your post with the first sentence.

Are you asking how to remove the tip-up sink? If so, raise to about 45 degrees and then pull towards you.

Hi,
The sink pivots on knobs on each side which engage with holes in the frame. Try CAREFULLY prising the frame out one side while twisting the sink away,

What's the fridge got to do with it?

Sorry. Sink! Not fridge. Apologies.

Thanks for seeing through my weird brain fart and giving sensible answers!

When I had a blocked in the sink in my Harmony tried to remove the sink by easing it sideways on the pins but it wouldnt go, so I removed the 4 screws, eased the whole unit out which gave full access to the small tank, cleared the rubbish which appeared to be some kind of flat rubber washer, (never discovered where it came from), then put it all back...

The 45 degree trick doesn't work. Sounds like it will break. Will try unscrewing the whole thing tomorrow. Thanks all.

Sorry. Must be a different type from that which was in my Clubman.
Good luck!

It sounds like it's the older type tip up sink like our old '95 Exec.

I had to remove the entire sink/vanity unit while in France to unblock the drain in the waste bowl.

We had water on the floor that I thought was coming over the lip of the shower when SWMBO was showering, that turned out to be overflowing from the blocked waste (previous owners' soap and other undesirable gunge).

Once I'd found this I was able to check that the drain was clear by blind feel, poking a bit of coat hanger wire down the drain hole, to prevent it happening again.

The space behind the shower unit in the Exec is totally inaccessible, and I'm beginning to wonder whether this might be the cause of the subsequent rotten floor in that vehicle, especially if the previous owner was unaware and it had been overflowing for years?

Suffice to say that, thankfully, the sink in the newer Exec is the 45 degree removable type, and I'm checking it frequently for blockages and spillage into that inaccessible area.
