we have one a transend 200, no gps but a perfect picture, only yesterday did narrowly miss two teenagers who walked out in front of us on a pelican crossing, the lights were on green for us, if we had have hit them, this would have been the proof we needed.

The Snooper's spec is only generally Ok, but on the plus side it does include GPS location logging, which my £28 "wedge" does not. It does annoy me though when companies put words like "High-definition image projection" in their product description! As far as I can see the word "projection" is totally meaningless in this context...

I also share Peter Brown's slight concern that a camera is just as good at recording its owner's indiscretions as other people's, though I do of course strive to keep mine as few as possible...

The 720p max resolution and the .AVI file format usually mean that the lens and chipset are at the lower end of market.

1080p and .MOV is reckoned to be more the norm nowadays. If your £28 wedge is a B40 or A118 then it has better image quality than this. It might have GPS but it doesn't have a screen, so you need to connect it to something to alter any of the menu settings, view files etc. Acceptable in a cheap camera but in a £100 one?

Yes, you're right - my wedge is a B40, and it does do 1080P. And you also have a good point that setting one up must be a bit of a pain without a screen!

Unfortunately my views on the usefulness of dashcams and the like have been tempered by watching Car Crash Britain Caught On Camera last night - where the CPS failed to gain a prosecution for a bike rider, even though his camera clearly showed a vehicle, with number plate fully visible, driving into him from behind. The person responsible for the vehicle simply refused to state who was driving at the time of the accident...

You can buy a plug in GPS for it if you want one, about 15 quid I think?

My daughter has just retired from the police, she calls the CPS the Criminal Protection Society. The police arrest scumbags and the CPS don't prosecute if it 'isn't in the public interest' In other words, they are claiming dole so if we fine them they would not pay it and it cost money to send them to prison. It's not just the public who are sickened by this, the police officers feel that they are wasting their time and the crims are laughing at us all.

More to the point, I would feel uncomfortable driving a vehicle without a camera nowadays.

Of course you are also recording your own behaviour behind the wheel. See it as a test of your consideration and concentration of other road users. Moderation is the goal to better fuel efficiency and less wear and tear on brakes and tyres. Regards

I guess there has to be a balance somewhere. The consolation with the case I mentioned is that, although the CPS did not proceed with a prosecution, the owner got a £150 fine and 9 points on his licence for failing to provide the required information - the latter must have stung a bit when it came to his next insurance renewal...

I bought a Mio MiVue 538 deluxe model last year for £110 but all in car dvr cams are coming down in price now and i found the same model at £88.87 (P&P £4.90).

The 538 deluxe has GPS tracking where the 538 doesn't. The tracking works brilliantly as does the cam which gives excellent results in daylight and pretty good in low light. Cam displays day/date/time plus mph and GPS co-ordinates. Also has speed cameras installed.
