I had one of those (wonderful) motorhomes. Over 17 years, and 67,000 miles, I kept records. The average mpg was 32. I used Miller's Diesel Plus in the tank, as recommended by motoring journalists.

You probably know, but just in case you don't: it's pre-wired for cruise control. All that's necessary is to buy a new left stalk which incorporates the CC button, and get it fitted in place of the existing one. Cost me £80 about 3 years ago. I didn't know about the wiring until a helpful member of this Forum mentioned it. Worked perfectly and improved mpg somewhat. Also improved my ankle!

Yes, my 2000 Gatcombe was fitted with C.Control three years back.
There is a way to check by being stationary and Rev to 2000 revs then brake at the same time, this is where I'm a bit hazy but I think the revs should drop by a 1000. I'm sure someone or Google can confirm or not.

Ooh, cruise control.  I'd be interested in that.  I wonder where you'd get the stalk? A T4 Carravelle??

Hi,I bought the replacement stalk/lever from a parts supplier and had it fitted by the VW commercial garage,Robinson, in Norwich, they would have the stalk but I had already bought it thinking I could easily do it,not so. You need to use or take it to a garage to have the electronic bit to be activated. I paid £80 for stalk and £120 to have it fitted and activated.
Good luck.

I have tried the testing on my 2003 this morning and my revs didn`t alter one iota so take it isn`t wired for the Cruise control.

I did find plenty of places to buy the stalk from last night, most were £89 then the fitting, one firm was £160 plus vat complete with fitting, takes two hours . so I guess not for me.

Liking the idea of this. 98 2.5TDi so in theory should be plug and play? I have a full copy of Vag com so switching it on should be easy.

It was thanks to Dandywarhol on this Forum that I discovered that my Clubman [2.5 tdi, first registered July 1998] already had the necessary wiring.

Slightly later vehciles came with the necessary cruise control stalk fitted and activated.

Once my indicator stalk had been changed to one incorporating the CC switch, and the CC was electronically activated, it transformed the vehicle.

I hadn't known about the possibility. So when I got the vehicle new, I paid about £300 (then!) to have a mechanical retro-fit CC. That was very unreliable, and involved many , many long trips back to the supplier to get it repaired. It finally gave up in Germany when it wouldn't stop accelerating until in panic I switched it off at 80mph!  I taped it up.

Then I heard via Dandywarhol about the existence of the necessary wiring for the VW system. Immediately got it installed. Faultless. I strongly recommend, and shall be always grateful to Dandywarhol.
