Mattress for a 2004 Auto sleeper mirage 5000

Post by GSM1956 on Tue Feb 09, 2016 5:29 pm

Hi,

I’ve just bought a 2004 mirage 5000 and looking at the mattress for the pull down bed it might need replacing. Has anyone done this and will a 6" thick one still allow you to put it back up. Thoughts and comments on this or any unrelated tips for this model is appreciated

Well I don't think you'll get much response to this question. The Mirage is a very rare van, only 4 members are registered with the forum as owning one including yourself and none of the others have visited the site since last August. I believe they were built in Italy and fitted out in UK by AS. I have seen the occasional one come up on EBay and I do like the look of them. They appear to be good value for money, just a pity they are just that bit too long for my driveway.

I remember reading an letter in MMM a while ago, regarding someone who used a company near Cardiff to make them new mattresses for their MH, they were very pleased with the result.

I kept the address of the company and phone number for future reference.

Company name.           "Savoir Beds"   unit D     Gellihirion Industrial estate
                                          Treforest  CF 37  55x
                                          Telephone no 014 4384 4744.

Regards Leighton.

Ok many thanks. I have found a company that can make a mattress for motorhomes any shape or size called Custom size beds

Custom Size Beds
The Whitewall Centre,
Whitewall Road
Medway City Estate,
Kent,
ME2 4DZ

I'll just have to see how mine feels after a few sleeps

What is it about Ilkeston? Regal, Premier and another company called Belfield (they supply Bailey, Swift and many static caravan makers), all located in Ilkeston.
For Gsm1956 they are all within 20 miles of Shepshed.

It's nothing in the water in Ilkeston. I believe there used to be one company doing furnishing in Ilkeston and it was broken up some years ago and as a result there are 2/3 in the area. We used Premier Furnishings but going under the name of Relux. They were very good. The only problem was there were too many fabrics available. The agony of choice. confused3

Do consider the weight of a 6" mattress if it is deeper than the original. Although a sprung mattress will be quite light some of the PU foams (especially the more expensive 50 grade) are surprisingly heavy to lift.
