Campsite near Ostend or Dunkirk

Post by andygump on Sun Feb 07, 2016 7:02 pm

Hi

Can anyone reccommend  a campsite near Dunkirk or Ostend, and is open all year.     We are looking for one this Thurs 11th Feb, on our way to Germany.

Cheers

Andy

There is a site in Adinkerke (not far from Dunkirk) and just off the motorway but not sure if it's open all year round.

not an answer to your question but we often pull off at the firt service station on the A25 on the road towards Lille. Its about half an hour away and has an all night Carrefour with toilets and you can buy coffe or your breakfast. There is also a truckers shower but we have never tried using it. We normally park just behind the main building (we have a short van) but you can also find a less populated area towards the exit that often has a few campers parked there.

Hi Andy

If you are sailing into Dunkirk, go out of the main gate, round the traffic island immediately outside, and back in again but bear to the right. There's a large floodlit area under surveillance cameras and overnight parking is permitted.

It is only a car park outside the ticket offices, but it's secure and very convenient if you arrive late in the evening.

Just a thought.

Thanks for posting the map Peter. I never thought to check!! Hmmmmmm. Looks like we have a problem!! scratch head

The area we have always used is shown by the red arrow on this image, but it looks as if it has been blocked off with huge boulders. (I'm sure I have the right area - or am I dreaming???  think_smiley_46 )

If you zoom in on your map you can see them quite clearly.

If you look at the bottom of the image it's very recent (2016) so the boulders are probably there right now. That's a pity, as it was perfect for overnighting when you docked after an evening crossing.

Shame.

The French are building (have built) a new migrant camp in the area to try to move the "Jungle" from Calais. May be worth considering clearing Dunkirk asap.
