Monocogue Hab Door Lock

Post by NORGIL on Fri Jan 29, 2016 8:55 pm

The habitation door lock on my Clubman is about as secure as a Nigerian bank account transfer. Is there a more secure locking system out there that doesn't involve making holes in the body?

Hi Norgil,

We have a brilliant up together 1994 Talisman.

I put a Fiamma external swivel security lock - worth every penny but required two bolt holes and access from the inside to tighten up.

Gives peace of mind when away from the vehicle especially as I also installed Fiamma internal twist bolts on the driver and passenger door (they have a long robust tang to engage behind the door pillar). I also installed a flat shunt bolt internally (from B&Q) on the habitation door for extra security when we settle down for the night. The bolts will hold if the vehicle door locks are overcome.

Hope this helps - it is worth the effort getting these fitted.

It's the old Morris Marina lock, the barrel is worn and it would open with just about any key, but even with a new barrel the lock is poor quality.  Many years ago we had a fleet of Marina's and it didnt actually matter if you took the right set of keys, you would still get in, and most times start the car you chose !

There is gadget that you can get that fits on the lock on the inside and wedges the lever ,so if the handle is pulled it will not allow the tongue to move.If you use this and then use the cab doors as the main exit.I have seen it on E-Bay a couple of months ago

I got one of those red thingees. Works very well when your in the vehicle, but you would have to exit via the cab doors if u want to leave it on whilst ur out.

I fitted central locking in the end with a dead bolt for the Hab door.
Chuffed with it.
Beep beep - locked!
A mate of mine runs a mobile installation service called Sound Secure. Took us a while to figure it all out as its not the same as a standard car alarm/locking install.
We fitted a switch inside by the hab door so u can lock or unlock all the doors independently of the alarm.
Great upgrade.
