Clubman Exhaust pipe

Post by jane66 on Sat Jan 16, 2016 5:17 pm

Does anyone have any experience of replacing part of the exhaust system on their Clubman. I need the second piece, it's like a right angle with one bit longer than the other and that has a little kink on the end. I've found Online Automotive site, suggested by someone re an Executive on here, VW Heritage and Just Kampers. Prices vary wildly and I will have to check monday whether I'm looking at the right part, but does anyone have any other ideas please scratch head

Hi Jane, I suspect my exhaust is different to yours becaus the pipe you describe appears to be where the pipe with the catalytic converter is on mine. i have just had this pipe and the cat replaced by my local garage and was surprised how relatively inespensive it was, cheraper than a similar pipe on my car, so yours shouldnt break the bank as long as you stay away from the main d(st)ealers.

For Clubman owners, my exhaust pipe was holed because the dump valve (for want of a better description ) for the water heater had a tiny drip which over time dripping onto the pipe rotted it through.

Thanks Margaret and Norgil. Mine is a 1996 and it doesn't have a catalytic converter I'm pretty sure. My garage couldn't source it through normal channels so I said I'd have a google. I'll phone the possible sites I mentioned on Monday and check whether what I've spotted is the right part for the right age of van. It looks the same, as my mechanic took me underneath to have a look so I'd know what to look for!! One place had it for £10 and another for £35 or £78 depending on model!

Just to let folk know, got my part at www.onlineautomotive.co.uk. Excellent service and good price. Interested what you say Norgil about the drip from your water heater 'dump valve', as my little hole looked as if it was in exactly the same place. Thanks all

It's probably got a proper name but its a valve and it dumps water out of the heater so water heater dump valve seemed to fit...It had a different name when It cost me £80 to replace the cat because of a drip from it !!

Err !!  Is that the valve that dumps the water when the temperature dips below a certain number of degrees ?       confused3
I think my clubman is of an earlier vintage, and I don't think I've got one of those .......just have to keep my eye on the temperature....    shrugg    then do a manual d..   err !!   release water ......What if its hot ???  that's a waste of energy, isn't it ???

Its just the valve you open to drain down the system. Its under the offside bench seat, next to the hot water tank on mine. Right above the exhaust pipe !

Thanks for reply, Yes I know about that one, it is in the same place as yours Norgil, I thought the post was on about the one that opens when temperature drops.
