Pickering in Yorkshire

Post by Dutto on Mon Jan 04, 2016 1:50 am

Hi there,

We were staying in a cottage with friends but noticed a motorhome friendly site opposite Lidl in the centre of Pickering.

At £10 a night with water and waste disposal (but without EHU) it's expensive but very convenient for anyone who wants to take a ride on the North York Moors Railway train.

Best regards,

Frederic,

That's the one. up!

With regard to the NYMR train, the older ones amongst us will remember exactly why we didn't hang out of the windows of steam trains. allthumbz allthumbz

Apart from the possibility of getting your head ripped off by a passing pylon, there was always the added attraction of being blinded by the soot and ash that poured out of the engine. hugegrins hugegrins

It was quite entertaining on the NYMR to see a procession of youngsters (i.e. anyone under the age of 40) sticking their heads out of the window and then reeling back blinking, rubbing their eyes and producing copious amounts of tears! allthumbz

None of them got their heads ripped off but the results almost made up for the freezing wind that they let into the carriage when they opened the windows! Whistle1  Whistle1  Whistle1

Enjoy your trip. allthumbz  allthumbz

Best regards,
drinksallround
Ian

Ian be very  carefull. One of the few claims to fame in our family is that of a relative who was a trade union official in Preston, who in 1910 leaned out of a window as the train was entering a tunnel with more than a bump on the head!

I have now looked at the links. Thanks Peter and Dutto. I am off to Yorkshire and Northumberland in June. Good motorhome parking and a steam railway. What more could a chap want?

Bob, if you need a free stopover by Filey our field awaits up! Fresh Water, black and grey water disposal and could run out an extension lead if desperate.

Problem is JT, every van has at least two very big dogs, two gits and a JCB .

Ouch!

Talking of family have you ever read The Darwin Awards? hugegrins hugegrins

It sounds as if your relative was due an "Honourable Mention"!
