I have always been a bit nervous about fitted covers, quite like the idea of polytunnel arrangement though, is there some sort of agricultural arrangement that might work?

We occasionally pass a house where the owner has built with scaffolding and sheeting a "big" polytunnell arrangement to keep his RV in,just like a big garage
I wish our geography allowed us to do this as I think it's a brilliant idea as we have big trees which are decanting leaves onto the van roof at this time of the year

I reckon the problem when it comes to building a shelter that size is reaching a sensible compromise between strength and cost - because wind loading on a structure that big will become a major factor in the design. There are a number of companies that sell "folding" shelters for classic cars, but I'm fairly sure they won't scale up to the size that you would need.

If you happen to have access to a big lot of scaffold poles and fittings then that's fine, but for something that large it won't be a cheap solution if you don't!

Thank you for all your reply's, Have found german company which looks strong but only 2.5 meters high.
I'am very concerned with wind damage, this is why I'am favouring a cover.

Would you believe the coincidence - I just glanced out of the window and a caravan went past, being towed at some speed with a full cover in place.

I wonder how badly chafed it will be when the cover comes off!! It was flapping madly, as you might imagine.

The polytunnel idea is good, but beware of mice. I have no first hand experience, but I've seen many reports of mice getting into vans which are stored under cover. Presumably the little blighters like the dry surroundings?

Dave
on reading that I was taken back to the strong winds we witnessed while camping last weekend. On second reading I assume you meant it was being towed.

Yes, and at some speed too. Well over the 30 limit, so I shudder to think how fast it would have been towed on the open road.

However "friendly" the fabric might be, someone is in for a nasty shock!!

Dave

Dancover in the UK seem to make portable garages but dozens of them in the States at half the price if they would ship them - try google 'portable RV garage'?
