Delamere Forest CCC near Chester

Post by stevomar on Sat Oct 22, 2011 2:58 pm

Last month we toured Wales and the border stopping at sites at Symonds Yat, Tenby, New Quay, Bala and eventually Delamere Forest just outside Chester which I thought was the pick of the bunch.
We only decided to stop there an hour before arrival on a Thursday teatime and immediately liked the look of the place so decided to stop 2 nights. The staff were friendly and helpful, the showers, toilets etc. were clean and modern and the pitch was flat and spacious.
Running along the back of the site is the railway line from Manchester to Chester and the station is only a minutes walk from the site entrance. The trains aren't noisy so you're not disturbed- pWhen we go again we will defineately pop on the train into Chester.
There is forest visitors centre nearby where we got maps for cycling (Fri morning) and walking (Fri afternoon). We walked to the top of a hill where you can see 7 counties.
After all that activity the best thing was the arrival of the Fish and Chip van at teatime. They were great. Apparently the Pizza man comes on a Saturday.p
This forest site was a real surprise to us and compares well to other sites we've stayed on at Clumber and Sherwood Forests which are close to us.
We will defineately return and hope this helps others decide.

Stevo,
Although Delamere site is one of the nearest C&CC sites to us (the other is Oswestry) we've never stayed there. Often thought about but never got round to it. Will certainly put in on our 'must try that one' list.
It's also convenient for a nosey around Discover Leisure (previously Harringtons) if it ever re-opens after going into administration this week.

We stayed at Delamere Forest earlier in the year. A very clean and tidy site with friendly and helpful wardens. We took the train into Chester and also to Liverpool, missed out on the fish n chip van though.

Like Paul its probably the closest C&CC site to us, and Delamere Forest is great.
When we had the 2 Dalmations it was a regular trip to get them exercised. We have been there in the van (had some vouchers) and it is a nice site,, but with 15/20 mins from home!!! Anybody going should enjoy the walks and bike rides. You are a short drive from Chester or (for the ladies) Cheshire Oaks Outlet Centre. If you prefer the railway station couldn't be closer

We stayed at Delamere C&CC site about a month ago and will go again.
Nice site with great forest walks for the dog.
I think they open all year.

Nice site and others have said, plenty of walking or cycling available. Nearest pubs a good walk away, one a tad expensive the other excellent value for money. Village type shop about 10 minutes walk away with a decent selection of local fresh foods at reasonable prices.

Last time we stayed there was early in the season in a trailer tent. Woke up to frozen canvas. Oh the joys smile!

Delamere forest CC&C site

Post by JimCul on Mon Nov 21, 2011 5:26 pm

We have stayed here twice, once as a stopover on the way home from Scotland. I was absolutely shattered after driving from NI, across Scotland to Edinburgh for a quick hello to the familly. We phoned them at 7 o,clock at night from the m6, they waited up for us to arrive and couldnt do enough for us. We went back for a 3 day stay in september so we could explore Chester as my wife was really taken with the place. Wouldnt hesitate to reccommend the place.

We arrived around 12 noon today, friendly reception, site almost full, only a couple of hardstandings left, not using grass pitches except for two small tents that are braving this time of year although I have to say the weather is very mild albeit rather damp.
Went for a walk on the forest trails after lunch for about an hour and a half, pretty muddy. Plenty of people walking and cycling around the trails.
No TV reception here so we brought along DVD's and the laptop to watch them on. Pretty good signal for the dongle and relatively fast even though only getting GPRS signal.
Nothing happening on site to see in the New Year so we shall just toast each other and wish all of you a very Happy New Year.
