cracked inner window

Post by malloymillerblue on Mon Oct 19, 2015 11:21 pm

Can anyone advise please?
We've seen a 2006 Talisman at the weekend which we're really interested in (from a reputable dealer) but are concerned that there is a 2cm horizontal and a 2cm vertical crack in the nearside lounge window, around the ratcheted mechanism on the right hand side of the window - only on the inner pane, and not on the outer one.
Might this lead to problems in the future or is it something we can live with?
Any advice would be gratefully received!
Thanks, Malloymillerblue

Well its not right. Why not ask to get it fixed before purchase?

Thanks, Micky,  you're right and we have asked the dealer if he would do this before buying it.
However, he was reluctant to replace the window and was talking about drilling a tiny hole into the inner skin to stop the cracks creeping further.
Has anyone heard about this repair procedure and if it works? Maybe we're looking at an expensive replacement, But does anyone know how much a window would be?
Thanks,

Replacing the windows is a specialist job and expensive. If he wont replace the window I would walk from the deal.

I had this problem when I was buying from a dealer, both side windows,  he also said they would drill a hole to stop it going further, I refused to accept this, in the end they ordered new windows from Auto-sleeper, dealer was just going to replace the "glass " part but that wouldn`t work as the frames were a different size to the originals so I had two brand new windows in, including frames and catches.

The cracks are caused by closing the windows by pulling them to close, instead of lifting them up first and then gently lowering them, hope this is of some help, if my dealer hadn`t replaced the windows I wouldn`t have bought the van , this is a common fault, the windows on mine I believer were approx. £600 each so not cheap.

Best of luck hope you get it sorted to your satisfaction.

Hi Daisy Mae,
Your reply has been really valuable and we followed your advice  - dealer agreed to replace windows, and we are now the proud owners of a beautiful 2006 Talisman which is everything we hoped for. Can't wait to get on the road, but we have to wait 2 weeks until the collection date so the dealer can carry out window repairs.  Not sure what we'll do with ourselves meanwhile...

Thanks again,

Well done a result. check everything when you go to collect , he should also fit new rubber seals as AS have changed the shape new improved, as the older ones were leaking, have you asked him to check all the other windows ? my kitchen and bathroom windows had new seals and resealed, by the dealer he had ordered enough seals from AS to do all the windows.

Bet your excited,? won`t be able to sleep the night before you collect, I remember it well.

Best wishes,
Margaret

Talisman, a lovely van was going to buy one last year then decided to stay with my VW Clubman.
