Urgent - Trojan warning in email

Post by Paulmold on Wed Aug 05, 2015 7:23 am

Had a PM from a member asking if I had sent them an email with an attachment. I hadn't and their AVG security warned of a Trojan in the attachment. It was headed 'Paul and Carol Shaw'
It was sent from paulandcaz@worldof beer (never heard of them) and also my email address and 'sent from my iphone' (I don't have one).
So please do not open an email allegedly from me. Please let me know if you do receive such an email.

This problem has occurred again today. Please be careful of any email supposedly from paulandcaz.

And from anyone else in your contacts list if it seems at all suspicious. If you are not expecting it I'd suggest checking on the properties of the mail before opening any attachment. We have had three now, apparently from members of our contact list - one of whom emigrated long ago and with whom we have completely lost touch.

Since the email claimed to be about the lovely lunch she had with my wife last week, I was just a bit suspicious!!! She now lives in Australia. scratch head

Dave smile!

We get this all the time from our old boat syndicate days. Many of the members were not what you'd call computer savvy, and I think that their email accounts have probably been hacked.
None of them seemed particularly concerned when I alerted them, and it doesn't bother me because I run Linux not Windoze.

You are correct Dave, cos anyone checking the source of the fake emails from Paul would see it wasn't his normal URL range nor the normal suffix
