dash mount tomtom holder

Post by shaz on Wed May 27, 2015 8:31 pm

Hi. We have just bought a tomtom it came with a suction pad to stick it to the windscreen we find this is a bit to faraway to see clearly. It won't stick to the textured  dash. Can anyone recommend a dash mount holder that is ok for our 1995 Clubman.

I have a Garmin and had the same problem. I bought what looks like a bean bag with an arm. It rests on the horizontal part of the dashboard. Not perfect as it can slide when going round corners,
but it does the job. A quick look at Amazon produced this. May not be the correct one but there are lots of others.

You could try Velcro on the base bottom and Velcro on the dash. Worked with our old Snooper and the current Falcon . both units are larger than the TomToms I have seen so should be OK

I made one yesterday.

A circular plastic disk, impact glued to a half inch thick piece of very rigid high density foam, which was in turn stuck into a convenient recess on the dash with double sided foam tape.

Fairly easily removable if necessary with no damage to the dash, and rigid enough to hold the suction arm. Not exactly invisible, but everyone has a satnav these days so there seems little point in worrying unduly about marks on the windscreen or other tell tale indications. The suction arm flips off quite easily for hiding when leaving the van, which reduces the "advertising" to some extent.

I've got a doughnut and a funny three sided thing of similar design, but both of them creep across the dash, which is quite rounded on our van. At least this one doesn't go walkabout! up!

Garmin sell a self adhesive black disk which I stuck to the top of the dash on my 96 clubman two years ago, still there and used a lot.windscreen suction goes straight on this. Baz

Same idea as mine Baz. Didn't know you could buy them, but it didn't take long to make one from a bit of 4mm acrylic sheet.

I just raised it up a bit from the bottom of the convenient cavity on top of the dash - probably meant for holding loose change or little bits and pieces.

As you say, it works well, and could hardly be more convenient.

http://www.cdslotmount.com/

Picture is to the one I have, link to manufacturer and newer version. If you have a CD slot at the right height this is perfect. Highly recommended.

Correction Peter.

The right comment is, "If you have a CD slot!!"

I saw those at the show and they look brilliant. No bloody use without a slot though!! scratch head

Good point, just one more reason to keep the current van!

I know others that have had the vent supports have landed up with broken vents,

The doughnut I have has never slid or moved at all, easy to store and just place on dash when needed,

just saying before anyone shoots me down .

I went for the stick-on plastic disc (didn't have a CD player at the time!). . . . . .

(The other little screen is the reversing camera by the way).
