2000 Legend Acrylic Window Removal

Post by adrianfo on Mon May 04, 2015 12:54 am

Hi
What I would like to do is remove one of the big acrylic side windows, is there an easy way to do this. It looks like it has a long hinge running along the full top length of the window but I can't see where or how to release it from the window frame. When I replaced the rubber seals I removed the bottom latches and the side arms and held the window at 90 degrees to the van with my head while I fitted the seals. I mention this because I read somewhere that if you open to 30 degrees they should lift right off the hinge retainer, well I had them at 90 and they didn't.
Has anyone any ideas please.
Thanks
Adrian

They don't lift off, they slide out.
It helps to have an assistant, remove the stays from the bottom, lift window to 90 degrees, you will see a black self-tapper in the hinge extrusion, remove it & keeping it up enough to clear the bodywork to be slid out of the hinge moulding
One person holds it up, the other 'tups' it along with the palm of the hand.

Hi Modelman
Thanks for the reply.
Does the black strip at the top of the window actually stay attached to the acrylic?
Also once the screw is removed would I be "tupping" to the left or to the right?
Once again thanks for the info,
Cheers

Yes, the top strip is permanently attached to the window, it can be slid either way, space permitting.
I have heard of some instances where there is no locking screw in the frame.
