Possible purchase of 2003 Nuevo?

Post by greylag on Sat Apr 25, 2015 8:10 pm

Just had an email from a local dealer offering 2003 Autosleeper Nuevo at 25,000 miles and 3 owners.  Looks tempting but would welcome any feedback from Nuevo owners. Not having owned a motorhome before and after reading many forum threads, it gets just a bit confusing.  Pros and cons would be welcome.
Kind regards

Well, I'll kick off by saying that the Nuevo is a great 'van.

Compact size that can fit in a normal car park space (for when you're stocking up with food on the way home).

Very manoeuvrable on both the roads and campsites.

A full facility 'van with either 2 or 4 berths (and corresponding number of travel seats). Full cooker, sink and drainer, fridge in kitchen. Washbasin, loo and shower in washroom.
Gas and or electric fire for 4 season use.

Easily made up and comfy beds, especially the 2 berth with loads of storage space above cab seats.

Great build quality and residual value. Mostly reliable and easily maintained Peugeot Boxer base vehicle.

All in all a great 'van to explore wherever your fancy takes you.
We've had ours almost 5 years now (our first 'van also) and we've thoroughly enjoyed virtually every minute of our 300+ nights away in it.

Oh yes, and a great escape for a peaceful night's kip if you've got your grandchildren staying in the house with you!

Go for it. allthumbz

We have a 2004 Nuevo ES - the four berth version.

Bought it just over a year ago, the previous owners had it from new - they obviously were happy with it.

It's our first motorhome, and we absolutely love it! We've had 7000 miles of trouble free motoring so far, and hoping for lots more.

Hope you get fixed up, and you're as happy with your purchase as we are.

Tom.

Hi, I echo what Nuevoboy says.
Our 04 2 berth is our first 'proper' van with washroom etc. Our previous two vans were really camper 'day' vans, despite living in our first one for six months..
We've had it 5 years now, second owners.
We've toured Europe extensively and love the van for it's compact size and ease of parking We stop mostly in aires or camper stops and some of these places can get crowded, we've seen many big vans unable to park and have to move on due to either access or space. We never fail to find a spot to tuck our little Neuvo into.
The 2 berth is a doddle to make up the bed, no faffing about with cushions etc.
Like Nuevoboy we also use our van as an extra (peaceful) annex to the house when the family descend on us.
It also takes up no more room on our drive than our neighbour's crew cab 4x4.
I also like the straightforward electrics on this van, none of the complications of newer vans.
The only extras we have over standard are a solar panel and wind out awning, both essential in my view.
Al.

I agree it's a great van, easy for day trips and Tesco shopping as well as long holidays, just surprised the previous owners didn't use it more.

Check the gearbox. Those 2.8 JTD's have a habit of jumping out of 5th and 2nd can get a bit difficult on the synchromesh. I was beginning to get those symptoms at about 50,000 miles.

Isn't the 2003 a 2 litre HDI like my 2004?

I bought a Nuevo 2005 as my first motorhome. 17,000 miles, France, Germany Switzerland, with no major problems. We had the ES version. Loved it. My only slightly negative comment would be the 2 litre HDI is a tad underpowered, but that  just means you get more time to see the countryside en route. A good second hand choice. Bob

Sorry if I got the wrong engine! uncertain
My 2001 2.8 JTD was a Hymer!

Our 2004 Nuevo has the 2.2 HDI (turbo) engine, which seems to have more than enough power for me, and returning 30 - 32 mpg, so perfectly happy with performance and economy.

Our '05 Nuevo has also got the 2.2 HDI engine, which as Tom says above, is plenty powerful enough.
And I'm glad to hear that his MPG is in the same area as ours, which to be more specific has given 31.92 mpg over the 4 + years. agree3

Do all the ES versions of the Nuevo from that period have the 2.2 HDI engine? Maybe anticipating a larger payload? As I say, my two berth EK is the 2 litre, as is a friends. I find it powerful enough and also get around 31-32 mpg average.

My ES also has the 2.2 and also returns 30/32 mpg. Apart from the huge overcab for storage, unless you really need a 4 seater, I wouldn't go for the ES, the beds are much easier to set up on the low-profile 2berths.

I have just taken ownership of Agnes and doing my first overnight this weekend before going off for a further 4 nights next week....so excited and once I made the decision I slept better. She looks just perfect for me as a 'solo' traveller allthumbz

One of the benefits on these early Nuevo's was its width as other posters have said its size outside with what you have inside is great.

Later models went wider and IMO this lost the direction of the Nuevo's market which effectively replaced the Clubman.   In addition the later Boxers were more reliable than the early X250s and will give many thousands of trouble free motoring.

Go and have a look at it
