We had that sort of thing in our last van, a Bessacarr. It was, apparently, part of the luxury look ! Bluntly it looked awful: really cheap and tacky. We had air-con retro fitted and the fitter apologised for breaking a bit when he had to remove a couple of pieces. We were delighted to get rid of it !

We had a dash tidy from JK in our last VW T4 camper. It was very easy to fit and we found it very useful.

Thanks for the answers - even the negative viewpoints.  snigger

The reason for considering this is really just that, once we have our new flooring, to go with the upholstery, the old Boxer dashboard is going to look very drab and SWMBO wants to pick it up a little bit, as well as try to make it more useful for keeping bits and bobs to hand when on the road.

I appreciate that the wood effect may not be to everyone's taste (it might not be to ours either, we don't know until we try it) but it might break up the grey slabs of plastic a bit.

At 50 squids it doesn't seem to daunting if it's not what we're hoping for, but it also isn't going to be Merc quality by any means.

I was wondering whether anyone had bought the particular type of stick-on pieces shown in the ebay ad, and if they're any good or a rubbish rip off?

You did ask ...! Do you have a car accessory place where you could look first ? It' s the poor imitation of wood that we disliked. The might be better.

I bought one for my trigano tribute in 2008 it looked good after fitting it, but when we had some hot weather in southern France it started to lift in places. If you do buy it make sure that you really clean your dash before fitting.

I haven't got one, but like the look of them, saw one once & it certainly broke-up  the  'greyness' of the dash, as for the dash-tidy, like that as well, but does it impede the screen vents or is it 'fixed' somehow.

Our old Autocruise came with a wood kit new as standard, we also fitted one to our daughters MX5 and it looked as good as the original. I guess it all depends on the standard of the kit in the first place but a good one does look great, somewhere I have a picture of our Peugeot if you are interested just pm.

Wood effect on the dash was on mine from new, think it was a VW put on as I had it on my Topaz.  I like it would look bland without.  imo.

Go for it, don`t think you will be disappoionted.

Well, here it is. We quite like it as it breaks up the grey slab, it's better than I thought it would be for 39.99.

There are even little strips that go in the pressed depressions in the doors.

...here's mine, if anyone else is thinking of one. This was standard on most AS conversions using the VW T5.
I have added a leather s/wheel cover, nicer to hold than the plastic wheel.
Not everyone will like the "wood", but to me it makes it a bit more "homely", less like just a basic van dashboard.
It's all in the mind !

Good job there meanchris, off topic slightly can you tell me what the red light is to the right of the hazard switch as all I have is the hole!

If I remember correctly it's our alarm/immobiliser - the green one is the step warning, but it's never worked, I'll have to get around to fixing it.

I've got some leather that I asked Regal to save after our re-trim this year, and hoping to make a two tone leather steering wheel cover.

I've been practicing my skiving, (no silly remarks please  hugegrins ) but so far I've mostly just managed to cut and stab my fingers. I'm not going to go for it properly until I can make a good 3/8 inch taper on the leather edges to get the seams flat. I found a 'howto make a leather steering wheel cover' on 'tinternet.  allthumbz

Looks pretty good, meanchris - but my slightly OCD brain tells me you really need to get that upside-down steering wheel fixed . . .

...my steering wheel cover was approx. £14 from a well known auction site. Seems good quality, had it for some time and it still smells nice and leathery.
