A 24hr Stop Hayling Island nr Portsmouth

Post by mike on Sun Aug 21, 2011 9:30 am

I have just seen signs for parking with a motorhome on Hayling Island at the Sea Front near the beach for £10, the charge applies for any time between 10 minutes to 24 hrs. There are public toilets available.
In some places there are beach huts between you and the beach.
Cars by the way are £1 for one hour, £2/2hrs,£3/3hrs .
Thought it may be of interest as an alternative to sky high campsite fees especially in the high season and for a stop over for getting ferries from Portsmouth.
Good cycling is available in the area and a small ferry " the hayling ferry" runs between Hayling Island and Portsmouth, Yes it takes cycles, and gives access to Portsmouth sea front within 1 mile of the ferry (Portsmouth side)
If there is s forum member who lives on the Island then more details may be available.

PS also posted on MMM forum as a link for wider coverage and hopefully helpfull comments.

Did you notice any wording to the effect that 'no sleeping' allowed, often you can park overnight but not sleep in vehicles which defeats the object? If nothing like that stated, then this is a good site for those catching ferries as you said.

No - I did not notice but will check more thoroughly in the week.

C
However I have copied this reply to my post on the MMM Out and About Live forum:-
So I guess sleeping is allowed

Quote:- ""The overnight parking facility for motorhomes is at the West Beach Car Park and was set up by Havant Borough Council. Fresh water, toilet and waste water disposal are available. The cost reduces to £8/night out of season."" Quote.

Further info as requested on overnight on Hayling Island, I have telephoned the tourist office called "Beachlands" and offer the following info:-

West Beach Carpark, PO11 0AG, tel 023 9246 3297.

The post code will take you to the Beachlands Office and tha park is just behind their office. Payment by machine and the lady confirmed that sleeping in the Van/Motorhome is OK.

Hope some other Councils follow suit. I have deliberately Not posted this extra info on any other Forums. A bit selfish but us A/S owners have to stick together.

Mike up!

I live in Portsmouth, I used to live on Hayling Island. My thoughts on the matter would be to steer you towards a proper camp site, because beach huts on Hayling frequently get vandalised

As a forum newbie I am not allowed to post links. ***.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/townlisting.asp?town=Hayling+Island

And Google Loveders Farm. Their site is next to the CC Clubsite on the A259 Chichester Road.
