Awning Leg Brackets Empty Awning Leg Brackets

Do any forum members use the brackets fixed to their coachbuilt motorhomes that the awning legs sit into rather than be pegged into the ground?
I realise one would need to be cautious of blustery weather, but thats so when even pegged into the ground..
just wondering how secure and strong these brackets actually are in normal conditions?

A set of these came with the awning but were not fitted by the dealer who fitted the awning.  I have thought of fitting them myself but would be nervous about potential for damage, even if fitted properly with stress-spreading internal plates etc.

Also,  I can't see how it would be possible to use a tie-down strap with these as this would cause considerable additional stress in the wrong vector direction.

Even when using pegged down legs and a proper tie-down strap I never, ever leave the awning out overnight or when the van is unattended, as we have experienced gusty winds appear suddenly  (oooerr, missus!)  and needed to get the awning away quickly.  I met someone on a site in France earlier this year who had previously omitted to do this and the awning blew back on itself over onto the top of the roof causing very expensive damage.

Hi Roger... Must admit I share your same concerns hence my asking if anyone else uses them. I just have a pair unused and was considering fitting them to our next van more for convenience than anything else.

When I had mine fitted by the dealer on buying the van, he advised me NOT to use the brackets on the van sides, as they can  damage the panels of the van,  when putting the legs in and taking them out and can be costly to get repaired.

When we bought ours the technician showing us around suggested we didn't fit them for reasons noted above. So, they are still on the bag happyyes
