Spain next winter!!

Post by Tengah74 on Mon Mar 31, 2014 6:52 pm

Can anyone recommend a good site in Spain for 3/4 weeks next new year. Main prerequisites are dog friendly, preferably near the sea and just the usual amenities . I guess no further than Alicantie. Also we stopped at an Aire in Benicarlo a couple of years ago, but I hear it may have closed. Does anyone have any info on this . It was a great place, opposite a hotel, but 5 minutes from the beach.
Thanks
Tengah 74.

Hi there,

We loved the campsite at Vinaros.

http://www.campingvinaros.com

Suggest that you contact them and book though because they are very popular.

Best regards,

Sites we would go back to include Camping Javea, at Javea, not right on the sea front but a very good site.  Majal Guadamar, again a very good site which has the biggest shower I've ever been in and first class facilities, again not right by the sea but pretty close.  Camping Calpemar at Calpe is very good.  Camping Eden at Peniscola, very good. However the site we use to compare all others is Bonterra Park at Benicassim, north of Valencia, it's our ideal all round site, beach close by, town a short walk away and 2 supermarkets within 200m of the gate, good bus services, train to Valencia, and a cycle route along an old railway track, good restaurant, free Spanish lessons if you want to learn the lingo, you could join a choir and there are organised trips out - book early it's always busy.
Good luck with your choice.

Hi

I would advise you to go as far South as pos, and would recommend Torre del Mar which has two Campsites both on the Seafront and a very long promenade for doggy walking and easy cycling.  Reputed to be the sunniest place in Spain

stayed at marjal guadamar and bonterra park this yeaar...both as good as its possible to get....make sure you use ACSI to avoid hefty site fees....e.g guadamar 16 euros per night long stay inc 3 kwa electricity...
all comments posted by other correspondent ref guadamar and bonterra park are spot on.High numbers (predictably ) of brit...german.. and dutch campers.
this is our second year of winter stays in spain and would heartily recommend it.
Spain is not a cheap country anymore..prices in line with the Uk  except fruit (citrus) and veg which is excellent, cheap and plentiful at local  markets....ooops ! forgot san miguel and rioja !!
enjoy
geoff and sandi
ps. you will definitely need to book for winter stays otherwise you will certainly find sites full and only be offered  * Inappropriate Word * pitches; pitches at guadamar are large  with individual water  electric and tv points (take an aerial lead....bbbc 1 bbc 2 and itv available in english without a sattelite system but at  bonterra park small pitches.
take large ground sheets to avoid  dust and grit getting into van...as you will see that all other campers do

Piña San Jose, Zahora, nr Conil De La Frontera, excellent site for long stays, nice restaurant and supermarket, TV available from service point on pitch, wifi, etc. very popular with Motorhomefun.com crowd.
We are going back September. ACSI.

Another brilliant site is La Bella Vista between Estepona and Gibraltar at Dequesa Port, fantastic washroom facilities and good price if you book ahead but dear if you drop in, but, it's not an ACSI site.

I've tried to get a ACSI card and the book for late summer, but they have sold out!...Anyone know where I can get help, please, apart from Vicarios books?  We had planned to go south in mid September after the visit from the USA of my old college friend (from 57 years ago)

You're leaving it a bit late for this year but the CC and C&CC both advertise their sale, perhaps an email to ACSI might help.  However, it's the card you need not necessarily the book as all the information is available on the web or the app.

Thanks for that, RML.  We haven't had the van long, and are stuck here until "The Visit" is completed (as we reallise it will be a last chance saloon affair!) I have tried Emailing them... will try CC & C&CC
I've ordered the ACSI ID card...is that sufficient, or do I need the other one as well?

Check out Ebay just seen ACSI 2014 for sale, you need the discount card that's crimped within the book.

As Bob says you need the Discount Card that comes attached to the back of one of the 2 Europe books so if you're buying from Ebay make sure the card is attached and unused. The card you refer to is the camping carnet ID Card that some site accept instead of a passport as proof of identity.

Found that one on Ebay, thanks, but in a language that I could never hope to pass off as my own.  We think we'll settle for gentle dabbling along the Aires on the north coast this year and head south early next year.  Thanks for you input... very helpful.  Just received "all the Aires, France"...I wish there had been a similar publication for the ports when we were sailors!
